Summary: A field experiment was conducted to study the management of itch grass in maize through herbicides at RARS, Vijayzapura, during Kharif-2023. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. The study involved using of different combination of pre-emergence (PE) and post emergence (PoE) herbicides. Treatments were viz., PE application of Pyroxasulfone 85% WG at 150 g ha-1, PoE application of Mesotrione 2.27% w/w + Atrazine 22.7% w/w SC at 3.5 l ha-1 (RM), PoE application of Topramezone 10 g l-1 + Atrazine 300 g l-1 SC at 3.0 l ha-1, PoE application of Tembotrione 34.4% w/w SC at 287.5 g ha-1 + Atrazine 50% WP at 625 g ha-1, PE application of Pendimethalin 30 % EC at 3.3 l ha-1 fb PoE application of 2,4-D Na salt 80% WP at 2.5 kg ha-1 and PE application of Atrazine 50% WP 1.5 kg ha-1 fb intercultivation and they were tested along with weedy check and weed free check. In the treatments PoE applications were done on 2-3 leaf stage of weeds. Among the herbicidal treatments, PE application of pendimethalin 30 % EC at 3.3 l ha-1 fb PoE application 2,4-D Na salt 80% WP at 2.5 kg ha-1 at 23 DAS recorded significantly higher itch grass control efficiency at 15,30,45 and 60 days after herbicide application (92.7, 84.3, 82.2 and 76.6 %, respectively), lower weed index (2.68), higher maize yield (6,712 Kg ha-1), net returns (Rs. 85,722 ha-1) and B:C (2.57). Further, it was statistically on par with PoE application of Topramezone 10 g l-1 + Atrazine 300g l-1 SC at 3.0 l ha-1 RM and PE application of Pyroxasulfone 85% WG at 150 g ha-1 fb PoE application of Topramezone 10 g l-1 + Atrazine 300 g l-1 SC at 3.0 l ha-1 RM.
