ABSTRACT
The study was conducted in Belagavi district of Karnataka during 2023-24 with the sample size of 120 members of Farmer Producer Organizations. The “Ex-post facto” research design was employed for the study. The data was elicited through personal interview method.
The major findings of the study were, half of the FPOs (50.00 %) belonged to medium overall performance while, 25.00 per cent each belonged to high and low overall performance. Further, 37.50 per cent of them belonged to medium knowledge category followed by high (35.83 %) and low (26.67 %). Close to fifty per cent (47.50 %) of FPO members were middle-aged, 30.83 per cent had high school education, 39.17 per cent were small farmers and 41.67 per cent belonged to low annual income category. Regarding their involvement forty (40.00 %) per cent of members had medium extension contact, 38.33 per cent had high extension participation, 50.83 per cent had medium mass media exposure, while over forty had high social participation (40.83 %), economic motivation (42.50 %) and innovativeness (46.67 %) with medium market orientation (46.67 %) and risk orientation (48.33 %).
Correlation analysis highlighted that annual income, extension participation, social participation, mass media exposure, innovativeness and risk orientation had a positive and significant relationship while, regression analysis indicated risk orientation, social and extension participation significantly contributed to members knowledge about FPO activities. A majority (85.00 %) of FPO members faced constraints such as lack of processing units and non availability of storage facilities (54.16 %), whereas majority of members expressed the suggestions such as, processing units is to established (97.50 %), upscaling of procurement for major crops (82.50 %) and providing custom hiring services at nominal rates (53.33 %).
