ABSTRACT
The present study was conducted to standardize seed priming treatment duration in chickpea (cv. JG 11) at the department of Seed Science and Technology Dharwad, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad during 2023, which consisted of 42 treatments laid out in CRD with four replications. The treatment in which seed primed with nano-DAP (1%) for 6 hours recorded higher germination (93.00 %), seedling length (33.84 cm), seedling dry weight (3.32 g/ 10 seedlings), seedling vigour index-I (3147) and seedling vigour index-II (309) compared to control. Significant differences were observed for root traits viz., total root length, root surface area, root volume and root dry weight due to different seed priming treatments. The treatment in which seeds primed with nano-DAP (1%) for 6 hours recorded higher values for total root length (2975.7cm), root surface area (564.6cm²), root volume (7.75 cm³) and root dry weight (3.33 g/plant) compared to control.A field experiment was conducted in RCBD design at College of Agriculture, Hanumanamatti, UAS, Dharwad during rabi 2023 to study the effect of seed priming treatments on seed yield and quality in chickpea. Significant variations were observed across treatments. Seed priming with nano-DAP (1%) for 6 hours resulted in improved growth at 30 and 60 DAS (plant height and branches per plant), early flowering and improved yield traits such as number of pods per plant (63.33), seed yield per plant (15.93 g), seed yield per plot (1.61 kg), seed yield per hectare (17.85 q/ha) and 100-seed weight (25.88 g). The harvested seeds showed better seed quality with higher germination (92.67%), seedling length (33.58 cm) and vigour index-I (3112). Hence, it could be concluded that seed priming with nano-DAP at 1 per cent for 6 hour enhanced the growth, seed yield and quality of chickpea.
